THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH - Book Redesign

THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH
BOOK REDESIGN

The Epic of Gilgamesh is known as the earliest surviving piece of Sumerian literature. The purpose of this project was to identify the various themes running throughout the book, choose a direction, propose iterations, and create a new, more modern version of the book. The version created was inspired by the concept of death, the passing of time, and Islamic geometric art.
INSPIRATION

Multiple sources drove inspiration: Middle Eastern art, geometry, history, the passing of time, and the afterlife. There was a desire to create something modern and beautiful in its simplicity, but also somber, twisted, almost ominous. Filling the book with Islamic geometric patterns would transport the reader to the Middle East, to old Sumer, to the location where The Epic of Gilgamesh took place.
